Prioritization & Cost of Delay

Sequencing by Cost of Delay

Six initiatives are competing for the same capacity. Today they’re prioritized by whoever pushes hardest, or by size. You need to sequence by economic value: by what it actually costs to keep each one waiting.

🎯 Mission

In 4 rounds, sequence the queue by Cost of Delay and by CD3 (WSJF), handle a fixed-date item with a different urgency profile, and keep value-based prioritization alive.

The concept behind this mission

Cost of delay measures how much is lost per week of waiting, and it is the only criterion that compares genuinely different demands on the same scale. Without it, the queue is ordered by whoever shouted loudest. With it, the order comes from arithmetic: dividing cost of delay by expected duration puts first the item that returns the most value per day of occupied flow. Here you sequence a batch of competing demands and see how the order changes the value delivered.
