How this path is put together

Measuring flow is easy. Measuring the right thing is what separates a report from a decision. This path walks through four metrics that hold each other up: lead time says how long the customer waits, throughput says how much the system delivers, flow efficiency reveals how much of that time was pure waiting, and the cumulative flow diagram shows all three at once. The final step trades estimation for probability, with a Monte Carlo forecast built from your own numbers.

Who it is for

For anyone already running a Kanban board who needs to answer “when will it be done?” with something better than an estimate by analogy.

By the end of the path, you can

  • Pick the right metric for the question that was actually asked
  • Separate working time from waiting time in your flow
  • Promise dates by percentile instead of by average
  • Run a probabilistic delivery forecast
